Welcome to week four of the Reaser Report! This newsletter will provide weekly updates during the 2024 legislative session, delivered straight to your inbox!
From now until Crossover, which is February 13th, you can expect your legislators to spend long days in committee and on the floor. Crossover is the deadline by which all bills must be heard in their respective chamber and then are “crossed over” to the other chamber to go through the whole legislative process again. The weeks leading up to this big date are filled with long days hearing all of the remaining legislation to be acted upon!
Legislative Updates
Big news! My first bill has PASSED the House of Delegates and is on its way over to the Senate of Virginia! This bill, HB281, helps working families, businesses, and our economy by allowing for the creation of more mixed-use spaces.
Currently, four bills have passed through their full committees and are headed to the House floor, and three more have passed their subcommittees. Only three bills are left to be presented in their subcommittees.
During my campaign, I committed to moving Virginia forward, and during my first legislative session, I introduced 11 bills aimed at achieving that goal. These bills were specifically designed to address the needs our community has been expressing to me.
Conversations in the GAB
My team and I had a great time interacting with advocacy groups and constituents during their annual lobby days and Richmond visits. This week, I had the opportunity to meet with several groups working towards important causes, including the Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action, the Loudoun County Farm Bureau (including our very own Avis, from Mom’s Apple Pie), the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, and the President of James Madison University, which is one of my alma maters!
