Virginia House Democratic Caucus Pass Family-First
Budget
HB1600 passes (79-Y 18-N)
RICHMOND, VA - Following the passage of the Budget by the Virginia House of Delegates, the House Democratic Caucus released the following statement:
"Today, we took a significant step toward unleashing Virginia's potential by passing a budget that prioritizes families, strengthens our economy, and invests in our communities. This family-first, fiscally responsible budget addresses the housing crisis, expands childcare, lowers tuition costs, and puts more money back in the pockets of hardworking Virginians. It makes bold investments in our schools and communities, ensuring that every child has access to a world-class education and families have the opportunity to thrive.
"House Democrats are fighting for a Family First Economy- one that puts working families at the center of our economic growth, drives opportunity, and ensures every Virginian can not just get by, but get ahead," said Speaker Don Scott, Leader Charniele Herring, and Chair Kathy Tran.
"Our job as legislators is simple: to improve the lives of Virginians by ensuring government works for everyone. This budget delivers critical tax relief, expands access to affordable housing, invests in maternal and child health, and ensures fair pay for teachers, state employees, and essential workers," said House Appropriations Chair Luke Torian. "With targeted investments and one-time surplus funds, we are making smart, strategic choices to uplift working families and build a stronger, more prosperous Virginia."
With strong bipartisan support, HB1600 has passed the House (79-Y 18-N) and now moves to the Senate before entering conference in the coming weeks.
