Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays! As the year draws to a close, I hope everyone has the chance to spend some time with loved ones and take a rest before the new year begins. I want to wish all of you a joyful December and thank you for allowing me to represent you in Richmond!

We are excited about the upcoming session and the new year. As my first year as a Delegate comes to a close, I reflect on the sense of honor and responsibility that come with representing our community. I am excited to continue that work and share more with you about my service.

The 2025 Session is almost here!

With 2024 fading into the background, the 2025 session is almost upon us! This year’s session will be a shorter session with 46 days, beginning on January 8th and concluding on February 22nd. My team and I are hard at work preparing our legislative portfolio addressing key issues in the community. If you are in Richmond during the session, feel free to come by my office to talk about the issues that you care about the most. My room number is #1016.

Commissions, Commissions, Commissions!

December has been a productive month for commission work! We have had major movement on a number of important policy proposals that will lead to bills in 2025. The Joint Courts of Justice Committee interviewed incumbent judges for confirmation, the Joint Commission on Health Care met to discuss policy initiatives including expanding access telehealth visits for students, to sickle cell anemia treatment and extending healthcare to vulnerable populations, and the Commission on the Virginia Action Safety Alcohol Program (VASAP) conducted a legislative review and discussed enhancements to case management, and the Commission on Civic Education, on which I serve as the Vice Chair, continued its work to strengthen civic education in the Commonwealth.

Are you having trouble with a State Agency?

One of the most important responsibilities that I have is assisting HD-27 residents with the state government when issues arise. Are you having difficulties with agencies like the VA Department of Transportation or the Department of Taxation? Send us a note and we can begin working to fix those problems. My staff and I are ready to help make sure that our state government is properly addressing your needs and the needs of our community!

ICYMI

Meet my Legislative team!
Beginning in November, my team has a couple of new additions! I am so excited to have them helping our district and advocating for our community in Richmond. Both are experienced and passionate public servants, to learn more about them you can read their bios:

Charles Conner, Chief of Staff:

Charles Conner (He/Him/His) is my new Chief of Staff. He has had the opportunity to see the General Assembly from many angles: as a civic engagement activist, a student advocate, a session aide, and now he’s joined my legislative team! A Northern Virginia native, Charlie is passionate about building up our community and region, helping continue to make it the best place to live in the country. Charlie recently finished up with the Harris-Walz campaign in Michigan, where he managed turnout efforts at universities on opposite sides of the state. He can’t wait to hit the ground running during session and get to work! In his spare time, Charlie enjoys reading, exploring the new coffee shops opening up across Northern Virginia, and taking an occasional trip to the Shenandoah Valley.

Caroline Garcia, Session Aide:

Caroline Garcia (She/Her/Ella) is joining my staff as a Session Aide, this is her second year working in the General Assembly and her first year in the House of Delegates. Caroline is a military brat, spending most of her childhood in Texas while her parents served overseas until landing in Roanoke, Virginia, where her family currently lives. Caroline’s parents instilled in her the importance of giving back to her community, so she joined AmeriCorps and worked for Feeding America. However, following the reversal of Roe, she turned to campaign and legislative work, managing 3 different state legislative races in Virginia, Ohio, and Nevada and working for Senator Russet Perry in the 2024 Session. Outside of work, Caroline loves to travel with friends and is always looking for the best pasta spots around.

Special Election on January 7th!

We have a crucial special election coming up in January! With Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam heading to Washington, Senate District 32 which includes most of my district has a special election to determine his successor. Delegate Kannan Srinivasan is running for this seat and I am excited to support him! Kannan is a thoughtful and passionate advocate for Loudoun County, he has notched several major legislative achievements in a very short time and is the right choice for Loudoun’s working families.

Running to succeed Delegate Srinivasan is J.J. Singh, a passionate and experienced community advocate who understands how to get things done to better our community. From helping farmers in Bolivia during his time in the Peace Corp to serving in the Obama White House’s Office of Budget and Management, J.J. is a dedicated public servant who will make an excellent addition to the House of Delegates and someone I cannot wait to serve alongside!

How My Office Can Help You

Navigating state agencies can be confusing and difficult at times. As your delegate, I can help you communicate with state agencies such as the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), Departments of Taxation, Social Services, Transportation, and more! I can also submit inquiries with those agencies on your behalf and help you engage with the state agency you need. There are limits to what I can do, however. For example, I am unable to expedite cases or force state agencies to favor your inquiry, provide legal advice or recommend a specific attorney, intervene with judicial issues, overturn decisions, or be involved with matters involving private businesses.

Whether you want to bring an issue to my attention, need my office’s assistance, or want to invite me to a community event, please reach out! If there is any way I can assist you, please let me know here: https://atoosareaser.com/help/.

Yours in Service,
